Homemade Face Cream for Dry Winter Skin

I love the snow, the cool, crisp days and taking a walk in the cold. But cold and particularly dry weather can wreak havoc on your face and fill it with cracked skin or dry spots. Even if you don’t like the cold, getting a few seconds of a cold blast can deplete the moisture in your face.

Olive oil, was the popular fat of choice among Egyptians and the Israelites and other cultures.

They recognized that their skin felt better after applying it.  Sometimes they would take complete baths in olive oil, or sunflower oils.

Today there are hundreds of products on the market that claim it will make you look younger if you use their product.

I am one of those number, having spent a lot of money to moisturize my face.

At the end of the day, after using thousands of products on the market, I discovered the best thing was just putting coconut oil on my face, or hemp seed oil worked just fine.

So I started fooling around, and began to make my own face cream.

These days you can use anything to make your own face cream.  The best homemade face creams should be edible.  If all ingredients are safe to ingest, then they’re definitely good for your face.

You can use just about any cold pressed oil.  Cold pressed oils are produced at low temperatures. Cold pressed oils retain all of their flavor, aroma, and nutritional value. Olive, peanut and sunflower are among the oils that are obtained through cold pressing.

Cold pressed oils are those that start off as a solid, turn to liquid, then solid again. A true virgin olive oil, will solidify if it’s standing in a cold place for a while.  The same is true with hemp seed oil, and coconut oil.  Any of these oils mixed with beeswax pellets creates your base for a simple face cream.

I use hemp seed oil as my base. I call it Mammer Jammer face cream, others who use a similar recipe call it Gypsy cream. This cream is good for mature or dry skin. It’s also good for diaper rash or other rashes.

double-boilerYou will need:

  • 1/4 cup of hemp seed oil
  • ½ ounce of beeswax pellets
  • 2 tablespoons of mineral water
  • 1 tablespoon mineral water
  • 1 table spoon Aloe Vera gel.
  • 2 tablespoons raw organic Shea butter
  • Double boiler
  • Spoon or whisk

Place the hempseed oil, two tablespoons of mineral water, and beeswax into double boiler and melt slowly. Once is almost melted, add shea butter and Aloe Vera gel.

Melt all the way, put it in a bowl and add one more tablespoon of mineral water. Whisk with spoon or whisk. It will thicken up as it cools. Put in in a sealed jar and container.

This should last about a month or so. Feel free to rub it on your face and body. Don’t forget to put it on your feet to keep your feet soft and “crack” free.

You can also substitute the mineral water with a “tea” of herbs or one herb. The most popular are: calendula, lavender, peppermint and rose petals.

Simmer the herbs, then use a cheesecloth to drain, and use instead of mineral water. You can also add a bit of lanolin to the mixture if you want. I usually keep it simple.

If you purchase these ingredients to make face cream you can also make body lotions and lip balm with them. So its money well spent if you wish to beautify, organically.  The best thing about it is that homemade is always best and cheaper in the long run.
