Tarot Card of the Week: Rebirth

rebirthCard of the Week: March 19 – 26, 2017

Rebirth

This week we honor the first day of Spring (for those in the Northern Hemisphere). This is known as the Vernal Equinox — representing a time when day and night are relatively equal in length. It marks the onset of a time for new beginnings and fresh starts.

The Vernal Equinox coincides with the Sun moving into Aries (which occurs on Monday, March 20, at 10:28 UT) and the beginning of Spring. The Sun in Aries signals a time to come alive and see the world through brand new eyes. It’s a time for embracing life fully.

The Rebirth card — from Steven D. Farmer’s gorgeous Earth Magic Oracle deck — depicts this energy beautifully, with the Goddess Ostara surrounded by lush emblems of virility and sacred symbols of Spring.

The rabbit and bird’s nest represent fertility and birth. For Ostara (whose rescuing a baby bird and turning it into a magnificent hare is said to have led to modern day Easter Bunny rituals), these symbols have special significance.

Tarot Card of the Week: Three of Swords

Chinese Tarot - Three of Swords

Tarot Card of the Week: Feb 27 – Mar 5, 2017

Three of Swords

This may be a high energy and potentially volatile week. Emotions can be difficult to contain — particularly the more aggressive emotions, like anger, impatience and indignation.

You want to be on your toes, especially where relationships are concerned as you may have to deflect a few daggers that come your way.

The Three of Swords — this version from the gorgeous Chinese Tarot — is often seen as pain and heartache, but this version veers so significantly from traditional imagery that it becomes a welcome and refreshing change.

You may not be particularly happy every moment of every day. You may still feel the sting of rejection or love lost.

But as you can see from the figure in in this card, it’s more about stopping pain in its tracks than it is about allowing it to cut you to your deepest core.

The young warrior in this card is a whirlwind of action and energy. She sees the sword coming at her and acts with deftness and precision. She wields two swords of her own and uses them to block the third one, thus minimizing the damage done.

Tarot Card of the Week: Page of Pentacles

Crystal Visions - Page of PentaclesTarot Card of the Week: Feb 6 – Feb 12, 2017

Page of Pentacles

This week we have a Full Moon lunar eclipse in the warm, creative, expressive sign of Leo. Leo is confident and dynamic, a natural performer who loves to take center stage.

This archetype is known for its interest in the arts. It gravitates toward the many different areas of creative self-expression, like theater, music, poetry, art and other creative endeavors.

But Leo knows that you have to take the time to develop and perfect your skills before you can be ready to unleash them on the public. Much like that Page of Pentacles — this version from Jennifer Galasso’s Crystal Visions Tarot.

The Page of Pentacles may be someone in your life; if so he or she is here to teach you something. This person may be immersed in a hobby or trade; he or she may be a student or apprentice; and he or she may just starting a new job and filled with all the inspiration and anticipation that comes with taking on a brand new project.

Here we see a young woman seated high up in the branches of a tree. This may be her sacred space: if you look around you can see where she’s carved figures of woodland nymphs into the surrounding branches.

Tarot Card of the Week: Knight of Swords

knight-of-swords-love-and-mystery-tarot

Tarot Card of the Week: Jan 16, 2017 – Jan 22, 2017

Knight of Swords

This week you want to be on your toes and prepared for whatever opportunities — or peril — that comes your way.

The Knight of Swords — this version from the gorgeous Love and Mystery Tarot — is sharp, focused and purposeful, aware of his (or her) environment and quick to act if need be.

In traditional Rider Waite type decks, the Knight of Swords is literally a knight in shining armor, charging ahead into battle or to rescue his fair maiden.

But here we have a young hipster-soldier girl standing watch under a bird-filled sky. She herself resembles a bright and colorful bird, from her hair to her coloring to her clothing to her complete immersion in the scene before her.

But these birds aren’t flying south for the winter: they’re circling above her in what could be a menacing formation. She keeps her sword ready but holds it behind her until she knows for sure.

The Knight of Swords often delivers news. Sometimes it’s good news and sometimes it’s not. But like the young warrior in our card, your main objective should be to stay alert and be prepared to act quickly and decisively either way.

Tarot Card of the Week: The World

christmas-tarot-world

Tarot Card of the Week: Dec 19 – Dec 25, 2016

The World

This week’s card  — The World from the beautiful Christmas Tarot — is all about looking at the bigger picture and tracing the steps that have led you to where you are today.

It’s a card of fulfillment and completion; recognizing milestones that have passed and goals that have been achieved as you prepare to close the door on one chapter in your life and open another.

You may be setting new goals in place or you may be taking some time to celebrate how far you’ve come. You may be also thinking about the year ahead and the changes you want to set in motion.

As the last card in the tarot, the World complete’s the Fool’s journey, with the understanding that he’s grown, evolved and matured along the way.

This card can also have you thinking about where you fit in in the world and about your contributions to humanity. It speaks of not only realizing your dreams and achieving your goals, but also becoming one with the Universe, fulfilled and complete.

Tarot Card of the Week: Seven of Pentacles

Seven of Pentacles

Tarot Card of the Week: Dec 5 – Dec 11, 2016

Seven of Pentacles

This week you may be feeling frustrated over something that’s taking longer to manifest than you’d hoped for. While the urge to push ahead anyway and move things at a faster pace will be strong, the Seven of Pentacles encourages you to do otherwise.

It says it’s time to step back, test the waters, and assess the progress you’ve already made before you plan your next move.

It’s about getting your ducks in a row and taking the time to finesse your plans before you act on them — even if you’re tempted to push forward prematurely.

In this version of the card — from Patrick Valenza’s Deviant Moon Tarot — we see a little witch figure standing before a tree under the light of a New Moon. Perhaps she needs some of the tree’s life essence to cast a spell. But she pokes at it with her wand and draws blood.

We can see all seven pentacles growing on the limbs of the tree, but there are no leaves and no flowers: they too are not quite ripe for the picking.

There’s a sense with this card that it’s just not time; she’s just not ready; and there are still preparations to be made.
