Tarot of the Week Nine of Wands

Nine of Wands

Tarot Card of the Week: Jan 30 – Feb 6 2017

Nine of Wands

The Nine of Wands in the Mystic Dreamer Tarot Deck represents courage, persistence, a test of faith and resilience. All these powers are at your disposal when you see this card in a reading.

The Suit of Wands represents the element of Fire. The card meanings of “wands” are associated with: energy, spirituality, inspiration, determination, strength, intuition, creative thinking, ambition, and growth.

Depending on other cards, this one could either help clarify a work or relationship situation.  So let’s first take a look at the image.

Here we see a beautiful woman, a representation of our psyche the intuitive side of us, she is our sixth sense. She looks thoughtfully on to choices she has to make. She’s bathed in an ethereal, glow. She contemplates what do to as she struggles for enlightenment.

She has traveled a long way and is tired, she is finally coming to the end of something, a particular task or finishing up something at the last minute. You may feel like you are challenged by setbacks but somehow you see everything through just in time.

Sure there are some difficulties along the way but don’t give up, this is a card of hope and encouragement. If you stand firm and strong you will achieve what you wanted, and learn a few things along the way.

The challenges before you now are the darkness before the light of the tunnel, you can see the light will get closer and closer. These setbacks could leave you distrustful of others or you may not trust your own judgment. But there is a turning point to all this.

The time is coming where you will leave the past behind you, and start focusing on the future, and what you really want. While you’ve experienced losses in the past, every day is an opportunity to clean the slate and move on.

So if you see this card today remember that you are powerful, you can overcome and make things great again. It may have been a long journey but you are getting to the end of it, whether it’s finishing a project or making up your mind about something important.

The Mystic Dreamer Tarot is heavily influenced by the Rider Waite Smith tradition, both in card meaning and imagery.

At times the card images are almost the same as those in the Rider Waite Smith, but at other times the creator has not shied away from creating something different or adding a twist or something extra to an image.

The Hierophant is no longer a Pope holding the keys of the tradition, while two altar boys pray at his feet: instead, he is a handsome young man in a cathedral setting, surrounded by books. Justice is no longer seated in stone but instead stands at the edge of a precipice, looking over creation.

In places there are also tantalizing symbols that you have to look closely to see: the ascending stairway behind the High Priestess, the sword in the chalice beneath the Lovers, and the raven bearing the lucky clover in the Four of Wands.
