Tarot Card of the Week – The Ace of Wands

Wands01Tarot Card of the Week: July 8 -July 14

This week, we pull a card from Tarot of the Cat People by Karen Kuykendall. A cat woman Tarot card in this deck lifts her magic wand to greet a fire cat.

A fire cat signifies new beginnings. It is born of the fires of creation and comes fully grown ready to pounce on life with enterprising enthusiasm. The cat woman is wise beyond her years and her magical powers are prepared to vanquish any challenge.

This is the week where you’ll simply go for it. When you see the Ace of Wands it’s a sign that the road is wide open. When this card falls into a reading it’s a sign that it’s time to purse a new idea or project that you have in mind.  Your creative passions are high and you can really see it through.

This card alerts you to following your natural instincts. You don’t need any other tools than to listen and do what you feel is the best avenue.

When you see the Ace of Wands it’s important to strike now while the iron is hot, and put a temporary stop to the planning and research.

And idea you have could leave you inspired and motivated. The Ace of Wands is also indicative of these ‘breakthrough moments’. Your eyes have been opened to a whole new world and you are now very excited about the possibilities and the opportunities available to you.

Like the Cat Woman in the card, you are driven by a strong creative force. Just as she materialized fire cat, you also will be materializing new ideas to solve problems. This is a perfect time to draw upon your imagination and to make your dreams reality.

The Ace of Wands in Tarot signifies a seed that hasn’t grown yet into something more solid or sustainable. The seed is actually an opportunity that’s been offered to you and shows promise, but it’s up to you to make the most of the situation and maximize it for the long haul. This card is like the spark that comes when you light a match, or start a fire. But you have to work hard to build the fire up and keep it going.

This is a high-energy card. The darker side of the card shows a danger of uncertainty. You may be feeling restless or fearful to proceed when you see this card in your situation.  You may have energy and passion but you aren’t clear on the direction to take.  Ideas could be flying into your head, with ferocity, and you are exploding with energy wanting to get these ideas out there. No worries in the end, you’ll find a way to see things through for the long term. The fire cat is all about bringing more light into your situation and helping you SEE the direction you should take.

catpeople3The Cat People Tarot paints a picture of faraway lands trod by mystical archetypes and their feline companions. This deck is a perfect tool for dreamers and idealists, and is a great choice for divining the nature of human imagination. If you would like your own copy of the Cat People Tarot buy here.

The artwork for this deck was originally done as large format paintings, and it shows in the detail. The book, available individually or in the boxed set, gives the standard US Games card interpretations, as well as a creative and detailed ‘travelers report’. Written from the perspective of a deep space exploration team, the book makes the deck especially enjoyable for science fiction fans. The illustrations have a fantasy feel, using lush costumes, jewelry, and settings. Of course, the deck is a _must have_ for cat lovers–there are cats on EVERY card, even in the position usually taken by the dog on the Fool card.

The cards definitely sets the right tone for a reading, and the deck stands alone purely on its artistic value. If you get the deck, I would strongly suggest getting the box set, or buying the book separately, as the booklet in the deck is the standard US Games booklet and gives only basic interpretations.
