Afterlife, is it just something we want to believe or does it really exist?
For some people it is a given, they feel their loved ones have passed over to a beautiful place where their spirit is set free. For others, since they can’t really see it, they don’t believe it exists.
Of course, then there are those that would just say we die, that’s the end.
While some say there is scientific proof, others claim there is no way it can be proved.
Afterlife – How religion plays a part
Afterlife in most religions is a given, when we die our physical body is done but our spirit evolves to a higher realm. However, they don’t believe everyone goes to heaven or their higher level, only those that lead a good, moral existence here on earth. If you were not a good person in life, in death you will then go to hell.
One religious belief is there was a great war in heaven among the angels, more specifically between Michael and Lucifer. Lucifer was rebellious and was then cast out of heaven and resigned to hell. Many of the angels that fought with him were also cast out to hell.
There is also a belief that for those who were not taken directly to heaven, their souls must walk the earth until judgment day when they are then accepted to heaven or directed to hell. This is often called purgatory.
Afterlife – Is there proof?
There have been many books and movies written regarding people’s experience with Life After Death, or as most refer to it as Afterlife. While I haven’t read or believed some of the stories myself, there are a few that I’ve actually believed took place.
Heaven Is For Real, both a book and a movie, is about a four-year-old boy, the son of a Nebraska pastor. Colton, while going through an emergency surgery, slips from consciousness and enters heaven. After coming back, he tells of meeting family members, including a sister that was lost to a miscarriage, he had no real knowledge of knowing. Having watched the movie version, I have to believe this was a true account of his journey through heaven.
Proof of Heaven is the account of Dr. Eben Alexander, a neurosurgeon that had his experience while being in a coma. Being a doctor and a man of science, he often heard from his patients recounting their own experience, felt while the patient may feel it to be real, it was just simply fantasies produced by the brain under stress. During a coma that was caused by his brain being attacked by a rare illness effecting and shutting down the part of the brain that controls thought and emotion, he had his own experience that changed his thought process. It was that experience that changed the way he now thought of NDE (Near Death Experience) and convinced him the soul does exist and there is life after death.
To Heaven And Back is the story of Dr. Mary Neal and recounts her experience after drowning in a kayak accident. In her book, she tells of after several repeated revivals and her ultimate survival, her life was forever changed by the experience with death and the peacefulness she felt in the transition.
Is this absolute proof of the afterlife, personally I feel it is but there will still be skeptics that say it’s just our imagination? Only you can decide for yourself if it’s enough proof to make you believe.
There have been many television programs featuring mediums that bring forth messages from our loved ones that have passed. While I don’t advertise myself as being a medium, I often get messages, mostly from my own family, to pass on to someone. For me, I really don’t know how to just connect with a passed over spirit just by asking for the message. However, I do work with some very good mediums who I feel are getting a true message. Skeptics will say they are just doing a cold reading, meaning either finding out the information through research prior to the reading, or just throwing things out there that might be reflective of anyone. Again, it’s your decision to believe or not, but from my own personal experience, I believe our loved ones that have crossed over contact us all the time. Do you sometimes hear your name being called when there is no on around? Maybe a song comes on the radio, a light flickers for no reason, or some other unexplained thing happens making you wonder if it’s the spirit of your loved one. Chances are they are sending you a message, so take a deep breath, be still and listen and you may actually be able to understand the message meant only for you.
